Week 6 Report: Colt Solid in First NFL Start
Colt McCoy played efficiently and with few mistakes in his first NFL outing against Pittsburgh. Colt completed 23 of 33 passes (nearly 70%) for 280 yards and tossed a 12-yard TD pass in the 4th quarter (video). Colt also ran 4 times for 22 yards.
Most impressively, Colt faced the league’s #1 defense on the road and put up stats without any real offensive support. WRs Josh Cribbs and Mohamed Massaquoi both left the game with head injuries, leaving Cleveland with just two healthy WRs for the entire 2nd half.
Colt also threw 2 INTs but both came off tipped passes.
“He looks great in there,” left tackle Joe Thomas said. “He’s a natural back there. The kid’s a winner, that’s just what he is. He knows how to play the quarterback position.”
One QB in, one QB out. Vince Young left the Monday Night Football game in the 1st quarter after spraining his knee, but the injury isn’t serious (video). VY threw a 23-yard TD pass to Kenny Britt on the opening drive (video) and ended the game with just 3 completions for 61 yards.
Also in the game, Bo Scaife led the Titans with 4 catches for 53 yards and caught a 2-yard TD pass in the 2nd quarter (video).
Teammate Michael Griffin had 3 tackles and an INT in the 2nd quarter (video). Griffin is tied for second in the league with 3 picks this season.
Ahmard Hall carried the ball just one time but converted a 3rd down early in the game.
Roy Williams continued his recent tear, catching just 3 passes for 28 yards but adding 2 TDs. Roy’s first TD came off a 15-yarder in the 1st quarter (video) and second came off a 2 yard pass in the 2nd quarter (video).
Both touchdowns were capped off by Roy’s patented version of the Hook Em Horns salute.
With 5 TDs this season (all coming in the last three weeks), Roy is currently tied for 5th in the NFL.
As he’s done most of the season, Derrick Johnson led his team in tackles yet again, this time with 9. DJ’s 34 tackles this season is a team-best.
Teammate Jamaal Charles ran the ball 16 times for 93 yards and added 4 receptions for 24 yards. JC is currently leading the NFL with 6.5 yards per attempt, ranking him just ahead of Arian Foster, LaDanian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson.
With 34 tackles as well, Michael Huff also leads the way for his team, adding 7 tackles for Oakland over the weekend.
Ricky Williams recorded 64 yards off 13 carries to join Larry Csonka as the only Dolphin with 6,000 career rushing yards.
On the other side of the ball, Frank Okam recorded his first tackle of the season for the Texans, the third one of his career.
