Week 5 Report: Benson With Best Game of the Season
In an overall quiet week for the former Horns, Cedric Benson recorded his first 100-yard game of the season, carrying the ball 23 times for 144 yards. Benson also added 2 catches for 19 yards.
Teammate Jordan Shipley did not play after suffering a concussion last week.
Michael Huff also had his best performance of the year, leading the way with 9 tackles. Huff also helped seal a victory for Oakland and snap the team’s 13 game losing streak by forcing a Philip Rivers fumble late in the 4th quarter. The Raiders recovered the ball and returned it for a touchdown (video).
Jermichael Finley suffered an injury and was carted off the field on just the second offensive play of the game after reportedly displacing his hamstring. According to early reports, Finley’s ligament fell back into place, helping Finley avoid a tear and a long-term injury. His status for next week is doubtful.
(UPDATE: Finley will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and miss at least three weeks)
Cedric Griffin also suffered an injury and will miss the rest of the season after hurting his right knee on Monday Night Football.
Kansas City dropped its first first game of the season, but Jamaal Charles and Derrick Johnson continued their season trend with another good outing this week.
DJ tallied 7 tackles and currently leads his team with 34 tackles. JC carried the ball 16 times for 87 yards and added 3 receptions for 14 yards.
Roy Williams had a second strong week in a row, this time catching 6 passes for 87 yards, including a 6-yard TD reception.
On the other side of the ball, Vince Young completed 12 of 25 passes for 173 yards and 2 TDs. VY’s first TD came off a 24-yard pass in the 1st quarter (video) and second strike came off a 12-yarder in the 2nd quarter (video). VY also added 4 carries for 22 yards.
Teammate Michael Griffin intercepted a pass intended for Michael Bennett in the 3rd quarter (video), his 2nd of the season, and recorded 3 tackles.
Lamarr Houston had no tackles but recovered a fumble in the 1st quarter.
Roddrick Muckelroy had the best game of his rookie season, with 2 tackles and a forced fumble.
