Heisman Trust to Consider Fate of Bush’s 2005 Trophy

July 21st, 2010 in Player News | Tags:

The Heisman Trophy Trust announced today that it will re-evaluate the situation surrounding Reggie Bush’s 2005 Heisman Trophy on Tuesday of next week, according to ESPN.

The news comes one day after incoming athletic director Pat Haden announced USC’s intention of returning its copy of Reggie Bush’s 2005 Heisman Trophy in a move to distance the school from Bush, who accepted gifts from two sports marketers while at USC, including a rent-free home for Bush’s family. The NCAA ruled that Bush became ineligible at least by December 2005.

Returning the trophy is just one action USC has recently taken to help clear its image after being slapped by the NCAA for rule violations. USC has also removed many other references to Bush, including jersey displays and school murals.

Now the big question remains…what will the Heisman Trust do with the trophy (if anything), and would runner-up Vince Young accept it if given to him?

It’s “accept the award,” not “except the award.”

Vince had a spectacular season, and embarrassed USC. The Horns were just unbeatable with him. Alas, the voters choose before the MNC game.
