Does Cosby Make the Cut?

July 22nd, 2010 in Player News | Tags:

The Cincinnati Bengals are loaded at the wide receiver position. Last year, the Bengals kept 6 WRs on the squad. Right now, there’s 10 players competing.

Quan Cosby signed with the Bengals as a free agent in 2009 and played mostly on special teams, where he returned 13 kicks for 239 total yards (18 yard avg) and 40 punts for 474 total yards (12 yard avg). His kick return numbers weren’t great (for comparison, Jamaal Charles returned 36 kicks for 925 total yards and a 26 yard avg.), but his 474 punt return yards were best in the league and just ahead of Josh Cribbs.

At the wide receiver position, Cosby caught just 4 passes all season for 55 yards.

The locks to make the team are Chad Ochocinco, Antonio Bryant, Andre Caldwell and Jordan Shipley. The Bengals drafted Shipley in the third round, and he’s already building good rapport with Carson Palmer.

Meanwhile, Cosby will be competing against Jerome Simpson (second round in 2008), Dezmon Briscoe (sixth round in 2010), Matt Jones (free agent in 2010), Freddie Brown (seventh round in 2009) and Maurice Purify (free agent in 2008).

Cosby entered the 2009 season on the bubble and likely enters the 2010 preseason in a similar position, even with the departures of Laveranues Cole and Chris Henry.

Do you think he makes it?
