“I’ve been a Miami Dolphin off and on for eight years now. I was thinking about when I got drafted. Looking back, it’s almost like there’s different phases of my life. It’s like when you graduate from one phase, it’s an internal school of life. A lot of times when you graduate from one lesson to another lesson, you actually change locations,” Ricky told Miami’s WQAM radio station.

“This has been a long lesson. I flunked a couple times. It seems like now it’s time to move on.”

Ricky’s contract expires this year.

Tennessee has placed Vince Young on injury reserve, as VY is set to have surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon on his throwing hand.

VY injured his hand in the 3rd quarter of Sunday’s loss in a game marked by turmoil after Titan fans booed VY. Young egged the fans on and threw his shoulder pads into the stands after the game.

Coach Jeff Fisher announced that Young would have been demoted to second string even without the injury.

At this point, owner Bud Adams has every intention of keeping Vince as a Titan for the near future.

“He is under contract. I wouldn’t want to let him go,” said Adams. “We are going to pay him a lot of money.”

Fisher didn’t sound as confident in Young’s future with the team.

“My focus is on this football team. He’s not going to play anymore games for us this year because of the injury,” said Fisher. “We can deal with all that when the season is over.”

Deadspin released its list of The Worst Players in NFL History, and Limas Sweed is victim #20.

Deadspin released its list of The Worst Players in NFL History, and Limas Sweed is victim #20. He ranks just 8 spots bettern than JaMarcus Russell and 16 spots better than Ryan Leaf.

Below is Deadspin’s explanation.

Is it possible that, 10 years from now, we’ll be grouping Sweed with Lynn Swann and John Stallworth as all-time Pittsburgh greats? I suppose so. Thus far, however, Sweed’s career is noteworthy for how incredibly bad it’s been. He dropped a sure touchdown in the 2008 AFC Championship Game because, egad, his eyes were on the scoreboard. He dropped another gimme touchdown last year, and he has missed all of 2010 with a torn Achilles tendon. Career totals: 20 games, seven catches, 69 yards.

Sweed’s short NFL career has been plagued by injury and dropped passes, including two potential touchdown. It doesn’t look like he’ll be turning things around anytime soon. He has 1 catch for 5 yards this season.

The ineffectiveness comes as a bit of a surprise considering Sweed’s success in college. Sweed currently ranks 3rd in UT history in receiving touchdowns (20), 7th in career receiving yards (1,915) and 8th receptions (124).

The good news is that the procedure is expected to have better long-term results for the Packers tight end, but the recovery period is 8 to 10 weeks.

Finley currently ranks among the tight ends so far this season in yardage and leads his team with 301 yards after 5 games.

Colt McCoy could start this week against Pittsburgh, with Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace both suffering ankle injuries that may keep them out of action for Cleveland.

The rookie’s first NFL start would be a rough one, with Cleveland squaring off against the league’s #1 defense in both yardage and scoring. If Colt survives his first test and remains the starter, he’ll face four straight weeks of top 15 defenses. The schedule eventually softens for the 1-4 Browns in Week 10 (Jacksonville, Carolina, Miami, Buffalo Cincinnati).

The Browns signed Brett Ratliff off New England’s practice squad to likely serve as Colt’s backup this week.

“Sometimes opportunity knocks and if so, you have to seize it,” said head coach Eric Mangini.

With Sunday’s game a couple days away, the door is still open for Delhomme or Wallace to return or another quarterback taking the job.

The Heisman Trophy Trust got it wrong again in deciding on Wednesday to keep the 2005 Heisman vacant after Reggie Bush forfeited the award earlier this week.

In 2005, Vince Young put together one of the most dominating season performances in college football history. Unfortunately for Young and for all college football fans, the Heisman winner is determined before the National Championship game, which is when true superstars should be evaluated most critically.

Reggie Bush had a great season for USC and deserved plenty of praise, but Heisman voters are notorious for having short term memory. In the final week of the season, Bush rushed for nearly 300 yards and two TDs against Fresno State. Meanwhile, Young and the Longhorns had their worst performance of the season in the final game against Texas A&M, and Heisman voters seemingly only focus on the last game.

After all the talk on whether or not Young should get the Heisman or would want it, Young ultimately said he wouldn’t have wanted the award even if given it.

“I would not want to have it, and don’t want the trophy. Like I said, 2005 Reggie Bush is the Heisman Trophy winner. Why would I want it?”

VY should have been given the award in the first place. After the NCAA deemed Bush ineligible for the 2005 season, he should have been awarded it then, too. Whether or not he would accept the award, should have been entirely up to him.

Irvin has never thought highly of Williams, especially since the Cowboys traded draft picks to acquire him from Detroit in 2008.

Miles Austin has recently taken over as the Cowboys’ top receiver after an excellent 2009 season, and the team drafted Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant in the first round of this year’s draft.

To reach the 53-man roster, Tennessee released QB Chris Simms, the Chargers released CB Nathan Vasher and St. Louis released RB Chris Ogbonnaya over the weekend.

Simms has moved around to a couple teams and been buried down depth charts since having his spleen removed in 2006.

After a productive six year stint with Chicago, in which his Bears’ teammates spoke very highly of him, the Chargers signed Vasher in March before cutting him this week.

Vasher will always be remembered for breaking the record for the longest return of any kind in NFL history in 2005, after running back a missed 52-yard field goal 108 yards. The record was later tied by teammate Deven Hester and broken broken in 2007 by San Deigo’s Antonio Cromartie.

The release of Ogbonnaya comes somewhat of a surprise. Even though he has not seen much action since entergint the league as a 7th round pick in 2009, Rams’ GM Billy Devaney mentioned Ogbonnaya as a player to watch as a potential backup to Steven Jackson during the offseason.

Just days after being cut by the Rams, Ogbonnaya was quickly picked up by Houston.

Cleveland rookie Colt McCoy started for the first time and completed all 13 passing attempts for 131 yards in a 13-10 preseason win over Chicago on Thursday.

Before Thursday’s game, McCoy had completed just 15 passes for 101 yards with two interceptions and a 57.7 QB rating in his preseason campaign.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer suggested in late August that McCoy’s roster spot was not completely safe, and he risked being cut before the season even started.

The news outlet backtracked on the statement just days later, saying McCoy was expected to make the team, according to their league sources.

With the risk of being cut averted, the question turns to McCoy’s spot on the depth chart and the chances of him seeing the field this season.

McCoy will likely finish the preseason third on the Browns’ depth chart, behind Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace.

What do you think? Will McCoy see any regular season action this season?
